Jasper de Bruin is an Amsterdam-based director, writer and producer with a background in visual art. He likes to work in genre; his films often strike a melancholic, ominous tone.

The surreal short FAST NACHT (2014) has won several awards at national film festivals. His short horror NIGHTINGALE (2020) had a successful run at the international festival circuit: the film premiered at Fantasia’s ‘Small Gauge Trauma’ showcase and was nominated for a Golden Hugo at the Chicago Film Festival and a Silver Méliès at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. He recently directed music videos for Dutch artists like ROOSBEEF and IMMEN.

After obtaining his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Jasper started his independent production company DE MAN & DE VOS. Here he honed his craft as a filmmaker, working and collaborating on experimental films and commissions by visual artists. He developed and refined his screenwriting skills at the Scenariovakschool in Amsterdam, where he graduated in 2024.

Before setting his focus on fiction and genre filmmaking, he co-created the premium game LAST INUA and founded TIJDSCHRIFT EI, an online magazine, a playground for emerging writers, illustrators and artists. He continues to collaborate with artists on their film projects to help them realize their vision — and to find new perspectives and ways of working. He also works as a film teacher.
